Moisture barrier padding creates a seal that prevents liquid from passing through the carpet into the floorboard, protecting it from damage. This keeps pet urine on top of the padding – near the surface of the carpet – where it can be removed much more easily. Cleaning the stain thoroughly and quickly reduces the risk of odors and permanent discoloration.
With moisture-proof carpet padding, professional installation is a must. Liquids have quite a knack for discovering any break or imperfection in the moisture barrier padding, so gaps must be sealed between segments of the pad. While conventional carpet padding is frequently stapled together, moisture-proof padding must be glued down evenly. Waterproofing of the seams and edges near your walls forms a seal, creating the moisture barrier.
