When you’re not happy with something, what do you do? You fix the problem. It seems like a simple solution but for some reason when it comes to floors, people often ignore the issues and live with the problems.

Why? We wish we knew.

It’s okay to love your floors. Treat them with care, they are there to support you and your family. Covering up stains and marks with another piece of furniture only works for so long. Wearing socks or shoes around the house because your carpets are no longer soft and comfortable should never be a permanent solution.

New flooring is the solution.

When new flooring is installed in your home you fall in love all over again. It is important to know how to properly take care of your new floors. Proper care will extend the life-span of your flooring, meaning you stay happier longer. Caring for your floors is not “one and done”, routine care will produce the best results. Below are some tips for caring for your floors:

Wood floors need to be swept or vacuumed regularly. It is best to avoid using any kind of abrasive cleaners and water when cleaning wood floors.

Tile floors also need to be swept or vacuumed regularly to clear it of any lose dirt, hair, and other dust and debris.

For laminate flooring, using a vacuum with a wand attachment, a dust mop, or a damp cloth for cleaning.

Vinyl floors can be cleaned with a damp mop. If desired, you can create a cleaning solution by using a small amount of clear, non-sudsy ammonia and water.

Carpets need to be vacuumed regularly to remove dirt and dust. For a deeper clean, you can shampoo or steam clean your carpets – a popular time to do so is in the beginning of Spring.
