Five key questions for your flooring expert

What you see is what you get. Or is it?  That gorgeous flooring you saw in the full page spread of your favorite home magazine may be your heart’s desire. But is it really right for your home and your lifestyle?

Various colors, patterns, and styles are available across all materials, so requirements like coverage, traffic, maintenance, and durability—rather than aesthetics—are what you need to consider in deciding which flooring type is right for your space. At Eastman’s Carpets & Flooring we are here to make those details easy for you.

Here are the answers to five questions we get most from our clients.

1. What flooring will go with my décor?

Decorative styles come and go, so finding flooring with a timeless look will let you change your style without having to change your floors.

The best way to get a feel for which flooring type will work in your home is to visit us. You can see the materials, ask questions, and get expert advice from our experienced professionals. Pictures can’t show the feel or other nuances you will find with samples in our showroom. Just take a look at our gallery, and you will see what we mean.

2. How do I choose a good quality carpet?

To some extent, “quality” is about your personal style preferences — but there are also objective quality standards you should pay attention to when shopping for a carpet.

For example, durability and performance. You’d be surprised how technology and innovation have made yesterday’s carpet materials from ordinary to extraordinary.

The best way to find just the carpet you want is to stop by our showroom so you see, touch and feel the many options we have available. Our sales professionals can help you find a good quality carpet for your needs.

3. Can I use luxury vinyl in the bathroom?

Luxury vinyl is an excellent option for bathroom floors. When you are considering new bathroom floors, water resistance is key. Luxury vinyl is not just water resistant, but 100 percent waterproof, which makes it ideal for bathrooms.

Available in both plank and tile options, luxury vinyl is much easier to install than hardwood or tile. Luxury vinyl comes in designs that mimic the look of hardwood or stone tile, which means you can get expensive-looking floors without the hefty price tag.

Luxury vinyl also has the benefit of being warm to the touch, which means you won’t have to hop out of the shower onto a cold floor. Better yet, it’s easy to clean with a variety of products that will keep it sparkling.

An added bonus you won’t find in other stores is our in-stock Floordash selection of CoreTec luxury vinyl. COREtec is a 100% waterproof flooring and is available in a variety of styles.

4. Is engineered hardwood better than solid hardwood?

Engineered hardwood is constructed with multi-layers of wood; each layer is positioned in a different direction. This construction prevents the engineered hardwood from warping and bowing the way a hardwood floor might in moist areas.

A hardwood veneer gives the natural wood beauty to the engineered floor just as a solid hardwood floor does, yet it is easier to care for and maintain.

No matter where in the home you install engineered hardwood, you can be sure it will be a beautiful, eye-catching statement with a durable surface.

5. What kind of flooring should I use if I have pets?

We love our pets! Our furry companions are some of the most valued members of our family. Yet, for all their good qualities, pets can be messy. Whether it’s the kitty’s litter box or the dogs tracking mud they can be a flooring nightmare. Thankfully, you have many options! Hardwood flooring is durable, yes, but if you have big, energetic dogs they can scratch up your floors very easily. We suggest you consider your dog’s personality before going with hardwood.

Carpeting can also be a good choice but again, there are some considerations to make. If your pet is prone to “accidents” it would be prudent to consider vinyl, tile, or carpeting treated for stain resistance.

If you’re considering carpeting and you have cats, make sure they have plenty of scratching surfaces, so they don’t turn their gaze to your rugs!

Overall, laminate and luxury vinyl are the best choices for the rooms your pets frequent. They’re durable enough to stand up to the biggest, most rambunctious dogs, and clean-up is easy.
