Disconnect Between Carpets and Vacuums
December 15, 2016

Carpets and vacuums go hand in hand; a vacuum is needed to clean a carpet. It would make sense then if the carpet and vacuum industries worked together to make life easier for customers. Unfortunately, this is not the case. There has been a disconnect between the carpet and vacuum industries.
Most people think it’s great that carpets are becoming more soft and luxurious. While we agree that it feels nice under your toes, there is one big drawback to this new luxurious softness – your vacuum might not be able to clean it. The newer carpets are made with more fibers that are longer than the fibers of the traditional carpets. Sadly, vacuum companies are not following the shift – they are not designing vacuums to accommodate this new style of carpet.
For a vacuum to be able to clean a carpet properly, air must be able to flow into the nozzle and through the machine. What many people are experiencing, is the longer fibers of the carpet are preventing airflow into the vacuum creating a suction between the carpet and the vacuum making it difficult to move. Not all vacuums are problematic, some work with ease, but if the one you own is not one of the select few, then what?
What is the solution? The best solution would be for the vacuum industry to shift with the rest of us. If they don’t, there are still ways to ensure you can clean your carpets.
- Do some research on your current vacuum – see if it is compatible with higher pile rugs.
- Before selecting a new rug, talk to a professional and have them show you the options that are soft and luxurious and work with all vacuums.
- If you’re in the market for a new vacuum – do your research and be sure to purchase one that works on all carpets.
