2016 Bathroom Trends

A bathroom remodel is one of the easiest ways to modernize your home while simultaneously increasing its resale value. Here are a few bathroom decorating trends we’re looking forward to in 2016:

It’s Only Natural

The Scandinavian design craze – with its use of natural wood and plentiful light – will continue to flourish in 2016. Stone and river rock being incorporated into floors, walls, sinks, and baths is very popular. These materials are also popping up in accent pieces, such as a stone bench near the bath, or a stool covered in a polished mineral. Traditional porcelain sinks are giving way to kiln-fired ceramics and polished stone. This trend carries over to the tub, with marble and natural stone dominating the wish lists of more than a few homeowners. Add in a metallic accent in a matte or satin finish to provide a touch of glamor, such as a copper bath tub. Or go for a more subtle look, and opt for metal hardware, towel bars, shower rails, and accessories.

Artisanal products sourced from natural materials, such as handmade bath mats and soap from local soap makers, are more popular than ever. A carryover trend from 2015 are the incorporation of indoor gardens that bring the outside in. Choose a plant like Jasmine in the summertime, and swap it out for sansevieria during the winter months. We’re also witnessing increased usage of low flow toilets, efficient showerheads, and water-saving faucets – thanks to a combination of environmental concerns and rising water bills.

Hip To Be Square

We’re seeing lots of blocks and squares everywhere – including faucets, bathtubs, and showerheads. These versatile shapes make a great addition to modern, contemporary, and transitional bathrooms. Oversized square tiles are the latest trend, offering the illusion of space with easy cleaning – thanks to minimal grout lines. Classic herringbone, basketweave, and windmill patterns add visual interest to simple, basic tiles.

Cool, peaceful colors are also trending for bathrooms this year. Popular hues complement the natural materials being used, with blues and emerald greens providing a fresh, uplifting vibe. These colors are frequently paired with crisp white bathroom tiles and bath accessories. Gray also continues to be a popular bathroom color choice, complemented by accents and accessories in mulberry, lilac, and purple wine. Pink – in peach, coral, and dusty hues – is in. It’s showing up everywhere, including towels, bath mats, cabinets, and window frames.

With the growing popularity of these fresh and natural looks, 2016 promises to be a great year for a bathroom remodel.
